About This Guide

This guide is maintained by efn magazine and provides links to folk music and dance web sites in Essex, sites outside the county that draw audience or members from within Essex plus regional and national sites that index folk activities.

For our purposes 'Essex' refers to the historic county and, regardless of postal address, covers the districts of Basildon, Braintree, Brentwood, Castle Point, Chelmsford, Colchester, Epping Forest, Harlow, Maldon, Rochford, Tendring & Uttlesford together with the boroughs of Southend, Thurrock, Havering, Redbridge, Barking, Newham & Waltham Forest and the parishes of Heydon and Great & Little Chishill which somehow escaped into Cambridgeshire in 1895.

The national sites are those recommended by the editorial team. We have concentrated on the major sites that actively index the English folk scene rather than try to do the job again ourselves.

We do our best to keep this site up to date and we make a point of deleting links if we are aware that a site is not being maintained. However people don't always let us know if they move, delete or create new sites so if you come across any errors or omissions please tell us.

Returning visitors will notice that we have split this into multiple pages, this is because we our coverage was so good that a certain major search engine blacklisted us for having too many links!
