Charlie Roby album cover

"Ramble and Scuffle” Charlie Roby
Malandrin Music MALCD0103

his second release from Wigan born, and now Canadian resident, Roby sees a fusion of rock, folk and world influences. The opening Cinnamon Road sets the pace nicely and Yorkshire Shuffle, which follows, is also a lively piece worthy of note. I also liked the reminiscing of In These Times, and the excellent atmospheric piece Dust, with strong eastern influences. Eliot's Tune is an instrumental striped back to just piano and guitar. Blue Waters is another of those pieces where rock meets blues meets east, and Diving For Pears features some fine vocals from Andrea Koziol and Denis Keddie on fiddle. Another instrumental La Route Tournante shows some fine musicianship from both Roby and Ben Grossman.
