"Out There” Eleanor McEvoy

Eleanor McEvoy is fine songwriter, probably better known for her composition A Woman's Heart. What's presented here is a set of songs of varied style, the majority of them written by McEvoy. Of the two non-originals, her take on the Marvin Gaye classic Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) is excellent, with the acoustic setting bringing the lyrics to the fore. I also liked her version of Lowell George's Roll 'Um Easy, which rounds off the album. I also enjoyed the tracks To Sweep Away A Fool, Little Look, and So Much Trouble, the latter a look at love betrayal and two-timing. On Suffer So Well, she plays all the instruments and performs all the vocals. In fact nearly all the instrumenta-tion on the CD is played by Eleanor, with additional backing added by Liam Bradley, and Dave Rotheray (from Beautiful South) with whom she wrote Quote I Love You Unquote. | ||
